Rule #1. Do not leave Heigele boys alone with pretty nurses.
Rule #2. Do not underestimate a Heigele boy's potential for naughtiness. Even the short ones.
The nurses' shifts change at 7:00 p.m. and this evening Jace decided to initiate his night nurse. Within 10 minutes of her arrival, he had ripped out one of his IV's, leaving a bloody mess all over the bed that resulted in a full change of blankets and bed clothes. Since he threatened to continue the performance with any other toobies available to him, he was quickly wrapped tight in a blanket burrito. The toobie action isn't too surprising...by day two LC had been literally tied to her bed rails...but Zip's got a LOT more strength and pep than LC had, so he may be giving them a run for their money.
Luckily, I generally anticipate the naughtiness of my children and came bearing gifts of homemade brownies and cookies to compensate for Nurse Megan's long night ahead.
Justin is headed back to Kansas City to provide Auntie Whit with some MUCH needed relief. She called to let us know we were out of distilled water...which may be code for 'hard liquor'. I instructed Justin to arrive with both.
Justin arranged for one more evening in the hotel for me tonight so that I could take advantage of Zip having a private nurse and get some much needed rest. Starting tomorrow, he and I will be roomies at Children's.
Thank you, thank you for your constant prayers throughout the day and for all those you'll continue to send up on our behalf. Jace has already exceeded my wildest expectations and any worries I have for the days ahead are far outshadowed by gratitude for the blessings this day has given.
P.S. Auntie Whit? Extra kisses for Pudge tonight. Sneak some in as soon as you read this. I'm going through withdrawal.
Well he must be doing good if he's already causing trouble. So happy Jace did a great job. amazing what these little ones can do.
ReplyDeleteawww...I'm on it. Curtie was naughty and had to go to bed early, so Pudge and I got some extra long snuggle time. There's no doubt in my mind she was pretending I was you. Tickle Jace for us (when he's ready)....
ReplyDeleteThis post just makes me happy! Yea for Zip! Give 'em heck, buddy!! Gotta love a kid with a lot of fight! :)
ReplyDeleteBig sigh of relief tonight, eh??
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for continued strength, health, and a speedy recovery!
